Situated in Loughborough, the project is a single-story rear extension to a Victorian end-terrace property on the bank of the grand union canal. The client brief was to produce an open plan living space that allowed light to penetrate through the whole space whilst maintaining privacy from the ongoing pedestrians walking along the canal.
The final design provides an openplan living, dining, kitchen space with view out to the garden. The use ofnatural materials such as stone, timber and copper allows the building to be inharmony within its context. The rear bifold doors provide seamless interactionbetween the in and out spaces. The garden split is into 2 using the samegeometry of the interior space to allow the parametric brick wall to giveprivacy but allow light to pass.
The sculptured seating area around the wood burner and livingcolumn, which leads to the breakfast bar connecting the space and allowingmultiple points of interaction around the central feature of the space.
