Based in Glen Parva, Leicester, this 1900’s detached home belongs to a couple with the desire of a more open plan living space to accommodate their needs. With the current living room isolated at the front, the client expressed having and open plan living with the option to disconnect the kitchen and open it out to the garden. With the couple keen on nature, they wanted an internal plant to remember a loved one.
The design allows the living room more width whilst utilising the current long utility room as an entrance hall. Room for a new W/C has been given at the entrance of the home.
Moving through the ground floor, ahead of you lies an internal plant bed with a view straight through to the garden. The utility room has been compressed to a unit in the hallway and a reading/snug area under the exposed staircase. This low-level seating wraps around the dining and living room providing multiple areas of interaction from one piece of furniture. The wall between the dining room and kitchen is shortened to give its connectivity to the rest of the house whilst having privacy when required.
Moving through to the kitchen we have a bespoke storage solution providing space for spices, lentils and fresh food picked from the garden. The linear theme of timber joinery is kept within the kitchen giving an eye-catching two-tone finish. During the summer, the bi-folding sash doors open up to allow the kitchen to be the heart of the garden space.
